Earlier today, the Maine CDC and Department of Marine Resources re-issued a health advisory to remind people to consume shellfish safely. In this advisory, Dr. Dora Mills reminds people to discard and not eat the tomalley (“the green stuff”) from lobsters. Dr. Mills clarified this issue today with a personal note: “Lobster is safe to eat, and I hope people are enjoying it as I and my family are,” she wrote. “We are simply reminding people of the long-standing advice to discard and not eat the tomalley - ie the ‘green stuff.’”

Starting from the dock to the plate, Host, Harro Fullgrabe, tries his very first Maine lobster in a traditional lobster bake at Fort Williams, Cape Elizabeth, that he himself caught just hours before aboard Captain Tom Martin’s lobster boat, the Lucky Catch.

Back by popular demand, the “Maine Lobster Chef of the Year” contest is calling for Maine lobster recipe entries from all of the state’s chefs, sous chefs, foodservice owners and operators, and culinary educators. This year’s competition is open to culinary students living or working in Maine, as well.
