Portland, ME - Two top level Maine chefs will represent the State of Maine at the Great American Seafood Cook-off in Louisiana on August 11, 2012. In response to a challenge issued by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal to appoint a top-level chef to represent Maine, Governor LePage anointed Chef Melissa Bouchard and her assistant, Chef Clifford Pickett as ‘Team Maine’ for the competition. Chefs Bouchard and Pickett from DiMillo’s on the Water in Portland, will compete against other top-level professional chefs from around the country for the title of “King/Queen of American Seafood.”

PORTLAND, MAINE: A brand new product to enhance the dining experience for lobster lovers was unveiled at DiMillo’s Restaurant on the waterfront in Portland on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. An elegant luncheon table was set using the uniquely engineered Patter Ensemble. The Platter Ensemble consists of two, oval, nesting deep-dish platters. The top oval platter is slotted and provides the surface area primarily for a boiled lobster. The platter below serves as a reservoir collecting liquids from such entrées.

Earlier today, the Maine CDC and Department of Marine Resources re-issued a health advisory to remind people to consume shellfish safely. In this advisory, Dr. Dora Mills reminds people to discard and not eat the tomalley (“the green stuff”) from lobsters. Dr. Mills clarified this issue today with a personal note: “Lobster is safe to eat, and I hope people are enjoying it as I and my family are,” she wrote. “We are simply reminding people of the long-standing advice to discard and not eat the tomalley - ie the ‘green stuff.’”
