Governor Baldacci Declares August as Maine Lobster Month
Augusta, ME – It’s official! The month of August has been declared Maine Lobster Month by signed Proclamation by Governor Baldacci.
“When people think of Maine, they almost instantly think of Maine Lobster,” Governor Baldacci said. “Maine Lobster is a worldwide favorite among seafood consumers and the industry is a strong contributor to the Maine economy. Maine Lobster Month is a time for all of us to recognize the lobster industry and its invaluable contributions to the State of Maine.”
Maine’s Lobster Industry has been a national leader in its efforts for long term conservation and commitment to the sustainability of Maine’s lobster fishery. These efforts will be celebrated for the 31 days of August, with consumers and businesses showing their support for the Industry by purchasing and enjoying the world’s finest lobster.
A variety of Maine Lobster Month activities will be taking place in August. Hannaford’s and Shipyard Brewery with their Summer Ale, will have special offers; radio ads will air reminding consumers of the delicious New Shell Lobster season; Rockland’s Maine Lobster Festival will run July 29-August 2; and numerous restaurants and restaurant chains throughout the State will offer specials.
August is the perfect month to experiment with these tasty crustaceans, because they are especially abundant this time of year. Maine lobster also offers buyers great value and versatility. Maine lobster can be baked, broiled, steamed, grilled, sautéed, stir-fried, and boiled.
