Q: What is the Certified Maine Lobster™ program?
A: The Certified Maine Lobster™ program was established to protect Maine’s reputation for having the best tasting lobster in the world, so people not only ask for it by name, but are guaranteed that a “Maine Lobster” is really from Maine. We stake our reputation on it.
Q: How will I know that a lobster is a Certified Maine Lobster™?
A: Look for the Certified Maine Lobster claw band, knuckle tag or logo displayed on the lobster or on the menu. Your best bet however is to ask for Maine Lobster by name.
Q: Why do we need the Certified Maine Lobster™ Program?
A: We’ve got a reputation to preserve and the only way to do that is to make sure that people know when they are buying authentic Maine lobster.
Q: Isn’t all “Maine” lobster from Maine?
A: No… Our lobster, Homarus Americanus or American Lobster, can be found from the Canadian Maritimes down to North Carolina.  It only deserves the name "Maine Lobster" if it is harvested in Maine's cold, clear waters by licensed Maine harvesters. Q: How can retailers and wholesalers participate in the Certified Maine Lobster™ Program?
A: By contacting the Maine Lobster Promotion Council. The Certified Maine Lobster™ program includes a program agreement with Maine Lobster dealers to tag lobsters, and other efforts to protect one of Maine’s most precious and unique sustainable resources.
