Across the United States –and around the world – Maine Lobster has become a food that’s considered both a delicacy and a treat for special occasions. Quite frankly, diners often consider ordering Maine Lobster in a restaurant a special event unto itself.
And Maine’s Lobster harvesters take great pride in this reputation.
But the sad fact is there are people out there who are taking advantage of our good name and solid reputation by calling theirs, Maine Lobsters – even if they weren't harvested here.
Not only is that deceptive, it’s just plain wrong.
We call these counterfeit crustaceans “Imposter Lobsters” and you should keep an eye out for them. Because if it’s not Certified Maine Lobster, it may not be from Maine. And that doesn’t leave a good taste in our mouth.
That’s why The Maine Lobster Promotion Council, in cooperation with Maine lobstermen, dealers and processors, launched the Certified Maine Lobster™ program in 2006 to protect not only the Maine Lobster brand, but to make it easier for you to know that the crustacean you serve really, truly is from Maine.
